Location: Konstfack and Mälarhöjden, Stockholm. June 18-19, 2022
In late June we re-unite — researchers and the group of young co-researchers — for a two-day workshop at Konstfack, including an overnight stay at a nearby hostel. The caravan has travelled to Konstfack and is parked inside the big exhibition area. Around the caravan we arrange the stuff we built last summer in Rönninge, as well as the portable pod studio inside the caravan. The group has now seized a piece of the art school for themselves.
In June, 2021 we explored ways to get access to, and make use of places in the vicinity of the young people’s neighbourhood (although more rural), the city of Stockholm, the park Djurgården, and the Technical Museum. This time we — the researchers and educators — have invited our co-researchers to an environment that is known to them only through what we have told them. Now it’s time for them to get to know the University of Arts, Crafts and Design hands-on. They gain access to the metal workshops and try out how to cast in tin and silver, making their own designs, while at the same time the pod-studio is available for recordings of thoughts and reflections.
The hostel where we stay is located in a scenic area just by the lake Mälaren. We eat breakfast outside in the garden. Hanging out, talking.
Our aim with this excursion and workshop is to offer the youngsters more time with skilled craftspeople — who they already knew from the previous summer. They would learn from them how to handle the advanced equipment and material, and explore the design process, but above all, to feel comfortable enough to explore Konstfack as part of the right of public access to culture, as a place to visit or maybe to become a future student.
